I completed my BA in Classical Languages at UC Berkeley and then spent a year at UCLA finishing a post-bacc in Greek and Latin. I decided to come to UCSB for the emphasis on teaching and professional experience, the benefits that come along with a smaller community, and the overall interests and pursuits of the faculty. My dissertation attempts to combine how Tacitus writes about the military values of low-ranking soldiers with what the soldiers themselves left behind in the form of documentary and material evidence, in order to define how Tacitus’ historiographical representation engages the historical reality of low-ranking soldiers. I have general interests in Latin historiography, intratextuality, and the interplay between text and material culture.
